Remembering 9/11 & The New Health Law

It’s been eighteen years since the tragic day our nation was attacked and the World Trade Center fell. We will always remember that day, where we were, who we were with, and the fear we felt for our country. But amongst the chaos and dust of the towers, our first responders were undeniably heroes.  Unfortunately, this World Trade Center dust also caused chronic breathing issues that still affects many survivors and first responders today. Thankfully in July 2019 a law was passed to ensure full funding for the 9/11 victims compensation fund.  If you would like to learn more, please visit https://www.lung.org/about-us/blog/2016/09/respiratory-impacts-sept-11.html

Drug Allergies

Drug Allergies

Windom Allergy, and Sarasota in general, is very fortunate to have Dr. Tara Saco in our presence! Dr. Saco spent a portion of her Allergy/Immunology medical training with the nation’s leading drug allergy ‘guru’, Dr. Mariana Castells at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, learning cutting edge methods of helping patients with reactions to chemotherapy drugs and the many new biologic agents (the ones you see on all the commercials).  Dr. Saco has been seeing patients with us since early July and would be happy to help solve your allergies at an appointment soon!

Allergen desensitization has been around for over 100 years, often referred to as allergen immunotherapy or allergy shots.  This remains the most effective way to ‘turn off’ your airborne allergies.  Another option, for those...

There are also simple steps you can take to limit your exposure to the pollen or molds that cause your symptoms: • Keep your windows closed at night and if possible, use air conditioning, which...

The Electronic Cigarette

The Electronic Cigarette

Congratulations to Dr. Fergeson and colleagues on the success of their article “The Electronic Cigarette: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” which was published in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: In Practice. This article was one of the top cited articles in 2017 and has provided the medical community with valuable information on the risks and benefits of electronic cigarette use in asthmatic smokers and highlights what questions still need to be answered.  Electronic cigarettes (EC) are battery-powered nicotine delivery systems that have increased in popularity since they entered the US market. EC has been reported to contain...
