Do I Have A

Food Allergy?

Schedule A Consultation

The most common food allergens are eggs, milk, peanuts, sesame, wheat, soy, fish, and tree nuts, which when ingested may cause the following symptoms:

  • itchy rash
  • hives
  • wheezing
  • shortness of breath
  • swelling of the lips, tongue, and throat
  • nausea
  • abdominal cramps
  • vomiting
  • diarrhea
  • anaphylaxis

A true food allergy, or food hypersensitivity, causes an adverse reaction to a food in the body’s immune system, which is different than a non-allergic food reaction, such as lactose intolerance. Testing by a specialist can provide an accurate diagnosis so proper treatment for a food allergy can begin.

While food allergies are on the rise, especially in children, the perception of food allergy is higher than the reality. That is largely because allergy testing, be it skin or blood tests, is notoriously misleading. To provide an accurate diagnosis, your physician at Windom Allergy will perform a thorough medical evaluation and appropriate testing.
