Clinical trial participants are given the advantage of receiving innovative treatment from expert physicians at no cost, all while helping advance medical science. In most clinical trials, participants will receive compensation for their time and travel costs.
Windom Allergy operates clinical trials through Sarasota Clinical Research, allowing patients access to new treatment options before they become widely available to the public. Sarasota Clinical Research participants perform a series of clinical trials, testing investigational drugs with the potential to become FDA approved medicine.
While the majority of Sarasota Clinical Research trials involve investigational drugs for asthma, COPD, and emphysema, we also conduct clinical trials related to food allergy, allergic rhinitis, and hives. We currently have patients enrolled in clinical trials for the first peanut allergy products: an oral capsule of peanut flour used in an Oral Immunotherapy protocol, and a peanut patch which adheres to the patient.
Since we began Sarasota Clinical Research in 1994, numerous medications involved in our clinical trials have been approved by the FDA, including: Nasonex®, Advair®, Symbicort®, Xolair®, Spiriva®, Foradil®, Asmanex®, Omnaris®, Tekturna®, Dulera®, Tudorza®, Pressair®, Onbrez®, and Perforomist®.

Dr. Hugh Windom is a distinguished physician and medical researcher who specializes in allergy and immunology. He received his undergraduate degree from Duke University and medical degree from Duke Medical School. He then did a research fellowship at The University of Otago in Wellington, New Zealand. After returning to the United States, Dr. Windom completed a postdoctoral fellowship with special training in Allergy and Clinical Immunology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD.
Dr. Ly grew up in North Florida and received her undergraduate education from Florida State University. She proceeded to get her medical degree from the University of South Florida College of Medicine. She then went to the great state of Ohio and completed her pediatric training at the Ohio State University at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. She was ecstatic to come back home to Florida and did her Allergy and Immunology fellowship at the University of South Florida. She has a special interest in primary immune deficiencies and did research in Severe Combined Immunodeficiency, or “Bubble Boy Disease.” Dr. Ly has continued her strong roots to University of South Florida and Florida State University and loves teaching medical students and fellows.
Dr. Jennifer Fergeson is a board certified allergist and immunologist. She grew up in Canada and moved to beautiful Sarasota at the age of 12. She graduated from Cardinal Mooney High School (Go Cougars!) and completed her undergraduate degree at the University of South Florida (USF). After graduation, she ventured out to Blacksburg, Virginia, where she received her medical degree from Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine, at Virginia Tech. Dr. Fergeson missed the sunshine state so much that she moved back to Tampa to complete her Internal Medicine residency and Allergy and Immunology fellowship training at USF College of Medicine.
Dr. Dunn grew up in the small town of Wheeling, West Virginia and attended college at the University of Michigan. She attended Chicago Medical School followed by Internal Medicine residency at the University of Chicago, where she met her husband, Dr. Ryan Dunn. Together, they moved to Denver for fellowship training at National Jewish/University of Colorado. They left Colorado for Peoria, IL to be close to family where Dr. Dunn started the allergy department at OSF St Francis hospital and practiced for 6 years. Eventually, Dr. Dunn wanted to be closer to her parents in Naples, FL, so they moved to Sarasota in 2022. Dr. Dunn is excited to join Windom Allergy and work with such esteemed colleagues in such a beautiful city!
